Given how much time we all spend in our cars, many of us don’t deep clean them regularly. This year, extend your spring cleaning to your car and treat it to a good wash and detail with these tips!

Clear The Clutter

The first step is to clear out any clutter or trash that has accumulated in your car over the winter. Bring out a trash bag for the empty coffee cups, soda bottles, and any other large debris. Next, review the objects in your car – do they all need to stay there? Sort through what can be moved back inside your home and organize anything that needs to stay in your car like the jumper cables, an extra change of clothes, or a first aid kit.

Carpet And Upholstery

Next, focus on the carpet and upholstery by thoroughly vacuuming to get rid of most of the grime. If you have a carpet cleaning machine with a portable attachment, give your carpeting and cloth upholstery a wash with the machine. If you have leather upholstery, be sure to use an appropriate leather conditioner to to keep the leather supple and scuff-free.

Clean The Console

Be sure to give the entire console, including the cupholders, a good cleaning with a spray cleaner and a soft towel. Treat your infotainment center and any electric components with care, but don’t avoid them if possible. You’ll also want to be sure to scrub out the cupholders and any built-in cubby spaces that collect dust and dirt. If you have lots of small spaces to clean, consider using an unused toothbrush to get the job done.

Wash, Wax, Shine

Ensure that your vehicle gets washed as you head into spring, either by hand with specific cleansers and soft towels or at a car wash you trust. This is also a good time to have the body waxed, the windows shined, and the wheels cleaned.

Leaves Under The Hood

Leaves, twigs, and other dirt have a way of gathering under the hood throughout the fall and winter, so be sure to clear any debris that has accumulated. Not only is it cleaner, but it’s also safer for your engine and electrical components too.
